Quick Trip to Chichen Itza

This trip took between 26-28.12.2016, Monday-Wednesday, the last week of 2016, my attempt at ending the year with a trip and mentally beginning to travel before the New Year began, as if to say, “I won’t wait until it turns to 2017”. So that happened.

I flew from Houston into Merida, Yucatan’s International Airport arriving around 8 p.m. As soon as I got past Mexican Aduana, I went and contacted an Uber ride which took me to my Hotel in 20 minutes. I got settled in my room, walked around not knowing where to go but ended up in the heart of Merida’s busy streets filled with tourists and locals walking left and right.

I didn’t sleep much that night, the next morning, I woke up at 5 am and headed towards the bus station, hailed a taxi and next I was on the bus that takes you to Chichen Itza. There were no more non-stop bus tickets available so I ended up taking a bus that made a lot of stops and the trip took three and a half hours instead of an hour an a half. But in trips, nothing ever goes as planned and we must adapt, that’s all there is to do.

I slept on most of the trip, woken up by a young German couple talking about I don’t know what because I don’t understand German. I got off the bus, I saw the long line and decided to eat, refueled–got in–possibly the longest line I have ever gotten on, but it moved at a steady quick pace and next thing, I was with the rest of the tourists wondering around these amazing ancient ruins.

The pictures will fail to illustrate humidity felt that day.

Tourists and me the tourist. It looks short but it’s a pretty long walk. Good thing there is shade from the trees on the side if you get tired.

Impressive.

Reporting reporting from Chihuahua, Mexico

I had a nice written paragraph but the Wi-Fi here disconnected, so I’m redoing this quickly, plus it’s steaming in this hotel lobby.
Here’s some pictures.

Flight to Chihuahua was four hours late. I arrived close to midnight.
